Computers
Cores, walls, kiosks and how to take a machine down.
The computer core
Players receive a computer core on their first join with mc8. Its tooltip lists the eight vanilla parts needed to build a machine. Run /computer core [player] to replace a lost core and /computer parts [player] for the bill of materials.
Building one
- Check the core's tooltip for its parts, then build them into a 3x3 wall, middle empty. The eight parts can go in any order.
- Place the core in the middle.
- The machine appears and boots to the login screen. Sign in to open Home.
Staff can also build a screen where they are looking with /computer create.
Sessions and kiosks
P1 is the player who logged in; their scores, to-dos and messages belong to them. P2 is the second player in a two-player app. Private computers wait for P1 to return, even after a disconnect.
For spawn and lobbies, make a kiosk: open Settings as an operator, choose MAKE PUBLIC and confirm. This logs the current player out and ends ownership. Anyone may then sign in. MAKE PRIVATE also logs the player out and leaves the computer unowned until its next login. DISOWN is not offered on a public machine.
After one idle minute the glass dims and anyone may press LOG OUT. Moving the look ray, clicking, scrolling or typing resumes the session before ten idle minutes, when the screen resets. Leaving range or disconnecting offers LOG OUT immediately. Operators may eject a player without waiting for idle.
Each player may use one kiosk at a time; signing in at another logs them out of the previous one. Kiosks restore no session after unload or restart. Making a computer private or public, disowning it, and logging out all save open work and forfeit a game already in progress.
Spacing
System's Screen spacing sets the minimum distance for new non-operator builds; 16 blocks is recommended. Changing it does not move existing computers. Operators can build closer, but screens still cannot overlap.
Removal
Look at the screen and run /computer remove. The screen's map ids are recycled.
