Get your server ready for play.

Install mc8, set up a computer, and decide whether it belongs to one player or welcomes everyone at spawn. Players need no client mod.

Installation guide

Start with a computer

Choose Fabric, NeoForge or Paper for Minecraft 26.1, 26.2 and 26.3. The installation guide explains which jar goes where; players install nothing.

Players build their own from a computer core and the parts listed in its tooltip. Staff can use /computer create to place one where they are looking. System sets the spacing for new player-built screens; the recommended distance is 16 blocks. Operators can place screens closer without overlapping.

For a shared lobby machine, open Settings as an operator, choose MAKE PUBLIC and confirm. Anyone can then sign in. You can eject a player without waiting for the idle timeout. The computer guide covers ownership, public kiosks and removal.

Keep it running

Back up the mc8/ folder alongside your world: it holds player work, scores and shared messages as well as the computers' settings. See data and backups for the file layout.

If a display looks stale, /computer heal resends its picture. For a stuck app, use /computer reboot. The troubleshooting guide starts with symptoms; the command reference lists the tools.

Server footprint

With no viewer in range, a loaded screen is kept but not updated or sent. When people are nearby, only changed parts of the picture are sent, and distant viewers receive updates less often.

Open System on the operator page of Home to change Viewer range, Screen spacing and Update drop-off for the whole server. Its APPS section controls which apps players can open. Server preferences explains the effects and recommended values.

Open the Performance app to see how the screens are doing. The monitoring guide explains the graphs and log messages.

Screens use Minecraft maps and vanilla sounds.
