A player stands in front of an mc8 computer built into a Minecraft room; its screen shows the Home screen of apps.

MC8

mc8 is a server mod that adds console computers to Minecraft. You build one from blocks in your world, and it runs dozens of games and apps: arcade games, card and puzzle games, board games for two, chatrooms, messages and a paint studio.

Players join with their normal vanilla client. There's nothing for them to install.

What's on it

Every app opens from the same Home screen. There are arcade games, card and puzzle games, two-player board games, chatrooms, direct messages, a paint studio and a few tools.

The machines look and feel like retro computers, not a modern PC. The games are quick to pick up and easy to replay, and leaderboards track scores in the arcade, puzzle and card games.

A 3x3 wall of copper, gold, quartz, redstone, glass, glowstone, two note blocks and a jukebox with the core about to go in the middle.
The eight parts go in any order. The core goes in the middle.

Build a computer

Every player gets one computer core the first time they join, and operators can hand out more with /computer core <player>.

Place the core in the middle of a 3x3 wall of computer parts and the computer builds itself in that spot. The other eight blocks can go in any order: a Block of Copper, Block of Gold, Block of Quartz, Block of Redstone, Glass, Glowstone, a Note Block and an empty Jukebox.

Light on your server

Distant screens stop updating and unload. Loaded screens sit idle until a player walks up, and update faster for players standing close. Player-built screens keep a minimum distance apart, which operators can tune, so no one is flooded with updates.

The apps and games are benchmarked, and an operator-only Performance app graphs server and screen tick times. The operator guide covers setup, backups and resource use.

Where it's at

This is the first public release, and development is active. It's fully functional and fun to play.

I've tested it extensively on the servers I run, but I don't yet know how it gets on with every other mod and plugin. Tell me what works and what doesn't on Discord, and I'll fix what I can.
